“Role of the Victorian Law Reform
The Guest Speaker will be Nick Gadd from the Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC), who will be speaking on the institution’s role. Nick will explain the recent recommendations regarding funeral and burial instructions, which at present are decided by the executor, a cause of major family disputes, and will discuss developments in Guardianship, where the law has recently changed in relation to powers of attorney and people’s wishes for medical care when they are no longer able to make their own decision.
Nick Gadd is the communication manager of the Victorian Law Reform Commission, the central law reform agency in Victoria. He has worked at the Commission for five years and is responsible for publications and media liaison as well as community education. His talk will cover the role of the VLRC and reasons why laws need to be reformed. He will discuss three recent projects of the VLRC: medicinal cannabis, funeral and burial instructions, and neighborhood tree disputes.
