“Role of the Victorian Law Reform
Commission (VLRC)”

The Guest Speaker will be Nick Gadd from the Victorian Law Reform Commission (VLRC), who will be speaking on the institution’s role. Nick will explain the recent recommendations regarding funeral and burial instructions, which at present are decided by the executor, a cause of major family disputes, and will discuss developments in Guardianship, where the law has recently changed in relation to powers of attorney and people’s wishes for medical care when they are no longer able to make their own decision.

Nick GaddNick Gadd is the communication manager of the  Victorian Law Reform Commission, the central law reform agency in Victoria. He has worked at the Commission for five years and is responsible for publications and media liaison as well as community education. His talk will cover the role of the VLRC and reasons why laws need to be reformed. He will discuss three recent projects of the VLRC: medicinal cannabis, funeral and burial instructions, and neighborhood tree disputes.

Healthy & Wise Program

This 8 week program will go ahead during Term 3. It has been developed for 16 participants and is available for both men and women over the age of 55 who want to improve their health, wellbeing and satisfaction with life. Programs are delivered by Albury Wodonga Health in partnership with health and community services and organisations across the North East and Albury Wodonga border communities.

Day/Time: Fridays 10.30am – 12.30pm
Starting: August 3rd – September 21st
Cost: $5 for booklet plus gold coin donation per session.

Guest Speaker: Kelly Gibbons

Topic:  Eye Diseases in the Third Age

Kelly is an Optometrist & has owned Wodonga Eyecare since 2004. She loves Optometry & the challenge of diagnosing & treating eye disease. Special interests in therapeutics, children’s vision and shooting vision. What she really loves is seeing her loyal customers & having a good chat! She has lived in the North East for 14 years & is lucky to have found such a great place to raise her kids. She enjoys living out near the Hume Dam & working with a dedicated and good humoured bunch of people at Wodonga Eyecare.

Kelly will explain how macular degeneration affects the eye. She will then discuss glaucoma and if there’s time she will talk about the significant impact of dry eye.

Kelly will talk on any vision questions you may have on the day, so bank up your vision questions!

The Europeans II

This course follows on from “The Europeans” given by the same presenter in 2017. “The Europeans II” is for people who would enjoy following, at a safe distance, the contemporary historical thriller now playing out in Europe.

Guest Speaker: Ivor Donohue

Topic: Our ABC – How do you rate its integrity and performance?

Ivor joined ABC Friends in 2003 and recently retired from the State Committee. He is Chairperson of ABC Friends Southern Bayside Group.

He wants to put before you an outline on how the ABC’s Charter defines its operation, the role and selection of the Board of Directors and how the editorial guidelines covering the provision of news, current affairs, educational and entertainment are designed to provide accurate and impartial news and information.

He will also discuss the allegations of bias and complaints made to the ABC and to the Australian Communication and Media Authority and give the details of his research into such complaints.

He encourages all to come along and tell him what you like and don’t like about the ABC and any evidence you have relating to inaccuracies and bias in the ABC’s coverage of events.
