Introduction to Indigenous Studies

The course will look at the indigenous society and will consist of three parts: A-Traditional Aboriginal society and their origin, common cultural features, the dreaming, hunters and gatherers, kinship relations and other aspects of their society and their ability to live in harmony. B-The impact of colonisation on their society. C-Contemporary social issues (includes political, civil and unresolved matters). We will also look at specific examples of the Aboriginal community, their social structure and environmental interaction. Where possible we will endeavour to arrange a field trip to look at bush foods and rock art .
