Course Code: U1929
One hundred years ago, in June 1919, the Great War finally ended with the signing of the Versailles Peace Treaty. The Great War is different to previous conflicts in that it was the first global conflict that involved or impacted most nations and countries around the world. Because the Western Front in France and Belgium saw so many of the major battles commonly associated with the Great War, the course will focus mostly but only on that theatre. It will explore the different strategies and tactics of both sides in each of the four years of the conflict, with consideration of Australia’s involvement in the battles. The course is designed for people with an interest in learning more about what was arguably the most significant historical event of the twentieth century, as some of its legacies continue to impact on our world today.
